* Two years ago the For Darwen Party famously promised residents a 5,000-seater football stadium, using pictures of a 30,000 capacity ground in Oklahoma in their 2008 election leaflets.
This time around the town is set to get a planetarium near the current market site.
Leader Tony Melia said it would rival the famous Jodrell Bank astronomy centre in Cheshire.
“The drawings are all of Darwen town centre,” he assured voters.
“We always knew they were on another planet,” Labour’s Dave Hollings fired back.
* Blackburn Tories have fallen foul of one of the party’s most influential supporters after a controversial election leaflet was circulated.
Blogger Tim Montgomerie, wrote on the ConservativeHome website, that linking the government to “atrocities” in Afghanistan and Iraq sounded more like the product of George Galloway’s Respect Party.
* Craig Hall, independent candidate in Hyndburn, has put out a surprising plea to voters as polling day approaches.
“Don’t vote for me” is the title of his latest press release, where he writes of becoming disillusioned with the General Election campaign.
“I want to distance myself from the political circus and non-dom media-owning ringmasters,” he says.
* The red, blue and gold parties may be vying for glory tomorrow, but claret success is guaranteed at the official Burnley FC Player of the Year award ceremony at Turf Moor.
The winner will be announced just as polls close for the General Election.
