A DIABETIC man found dead in his camper van was killed by low blood sugar levels, an inquest was told.
The body of Barney Smith, 51, was found on May 30 in his van parked by the canal at Foulridge Wharf The inquest at Burnley Magistrates' Court heard that Mr Smith, who was of no fixed abode, had struggled to accept his diabetic condition when it was diagnosed in 1999. His ex-wife Sara Jane Swann told the hearing that there had been a number of occasions prior to Mr Smith's death when he had collapsed due to not monitoring his diet properly in order to cope with his condition.
A pathologist's report showed almost no glucose in his blood.
East Lancashire coroner Richard Taylor returned a verdict of death by natural causes.
