LABOUR Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Pendle, Azhar Ali has spoken out against plans for fracking in East Lancashire.
Councillor Ali in his role as Lancashire County Council health boss commissioned an independent health health impact assessment on fracking.
A decision by the county on two applications to frack from drilling firm Cuadrilla in West Lancashire is due by the county development control committee next month.
Cllr Ali said the report raised questions around the safety, pollution and the environmental impact as well as the lack of a regulator for the fracking industry.
He said “Fracking is not the answer to our energy problems.
“We need to be focusing more on renewables as part of our country’s long term energy needs.”
