CHURCHGOERS in Cliviger have raised £1,000 for Pendleside Hospice with a fundraising meal at a Burnley restaurant.
Kath Rhodes, Sue Ashby-Smith and her husband Martin, who attend the Mount Zion Baptist Church, staged the gathering at Bertram’s, at Crow Wood Leisure Centre.
Kath and Sue said: “Many people known to us have been helped by the hospice and we felt we wanted to do something in return.”
Martin, the owner of SignSmith and a keen windsurfing tutor, roped in fellow enthusiast Olivier Foucre, manager of the restaurant, to organise a menu for the 80 paying guests.
An auction with gifts donated by the Woodland Spa, Burnley Cricket Club, Budjet Exhausts, Vivid Hair Dressers and SignSmith helped to boost the final total.
