THREE members of a Cliviger church have raised £1,000 for Pendleside Hospice.
Kath Rhodes and Sue Ashby-Smith, with help from her husband Martin, organised a meal at Bertram’s, the restaurant at Crow Wood Leisure Centre. Kath and Sue said: “Many people known to us have been helped by the hospice and we felt we wanted to do something in return.”
Martin Ashby-Smith, owner of SignSmith, and a keen windsurfing tutor, enlisted the help of his windsurfing friend Olivier Foucre, manager of the restaurant, to organise a menu for the 80 paying guests.
They also enlisted help from members of the church they attend, Mount Zion Independent Methodist Church, to publicise the evening and sell tickets.
A total of £833 was raised and members of the church agreed to make the total up to £1,000.
Vikki Haydock, fundraiser from Pendleside Hospice, said: “We really appreciated the thought which went into the evening and the amount raised.”
