BLACKBURN with Darwen has been hit by sporting fever as the Commonwealth Games get under way in Glasgow today.
Olive Lane Bowling Club held a competition for young people from Darwen primary schools, Holy Trinity, Sudell and St James's.
The children bowl each week as part of their school timetable.
A big netball tournament will also be held at the new Witton Park Arena, inviting teams to raise funds for the Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen’s charities.The event is open to both women and men and each team must have at least two men playing.
It takes place at Witton Sport Turf on August 1 from 6pm and entry costs £5.
Free fun days are also on offer at the park on Saturday and Sunday between 1pm and 4pm featuring a Commonwealth Games themed activity, including trails and walks.
