THREE students from Nelson and Colne College Sixth Form are to join in a summer programme to learn to abseil, kayak and rock climb.
NCS with The Challenge is run by the National Citizen Service, and college students Amreen Ali, Saqib Iqbal and Yumna Shah will be taking part in the event in August.
The students, who are all studying biology and chemistry at the college, are all eagerly looking forward to taking part in the programme.
The Challenge, founded in 2009, is a national charity aiming to connect and inspire people from all generations, ethnic groups and incomes to build a stronger society.
The summer programme is a three week-long activity, split into three different parts.
During the first students will take part in abseiling, hiking, kayaking and rock climbing. The second section gives them a university-style experience to learn new skills and meet new people while the third section encourages them to create and manage a community project or campaign after pitching their concept to business “dragons” to secure funding.
Yumna Shah, aged 16, said: “It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity, a chance to try something different and be adventurous. I can’t wait.”
