FLOWERBEDS in two of Pendle’s parks have been arranged to spell out the age of the borough.

To celebrate the borough’s 40th year, Marsden Park in Nelson and Barrowford Memorial Park each have beds planted up with lobelias, begonias, pyrethrums and nepetas in the shape of the number 40.

Councillor Nadeem Ahmed, who represents parks in Pendle, said: “The bedding plants have been planted as part of the regular summer bedding programme.

“But as this year marks an important year in Pendle’s history we wanted to mark the 40th birthday with floral displays in prominent places. I’m sure residents will agree that they look great.”

Pendle’s 40th birthday fell on April 1, but the flower beds couldn’t be planted until the time was right for bedding plants.
