LANCASHIRE County, Blackpool and Blackburn with Darwen Borough Councils are producing new advice for developers about what to take into account when making a planning application to develop onshore oil and gas reserves.
The three councils intend to prepare a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) on the issue which includes ‘fracking’ for shale gas.
Last year a British Geological Survey identified the M65 corridor north of Blackburn through Burnley to Colne and the Rossendale Valley as sitting on gas reserves.
The SPD will outline how existing planning policies can be applied to such developments.
