FIRE crews were called to a home in Burnley yesterday after a young child unwittingly turned an oven hob on, without his parents noticing.
The electric hob was left on while the Cedar Street family went out shopping for the afternoon, and they found their home was smokelogged when they returned just after 4pm.
The heat had melted an iron that was left lying on the hobs, which caused heavy smoke to fill the kitchen and ground floor.
Fire crews said the male occupant tried to enter the property on his return, but was unable to and eventually called 999.
No-one was hurt but the the kitchen was left badly smoke damaged.
