NIGEL Evans, MP for the Ribble Valley, has called on the Prime Minister to pay tribute to the military ahead of Armed Forces Day this weekend.

Mr Evans raised the topic with David Cameron at Prime Minister’s Questions on Wednesday.

He said: “As we approach Armed Forces Day, will the Prime Minister pay tribute to our armed forces, and to the charities and the generous British people who do so much to support those who give such commitment to Queen and country.

“Will he reinforce the fact that this Parliament will never, ever underestimate the contribution of the armed forces ?”

Mr Cameron said: “Not only should we commend our armed forces, but it is right that we have put the armed forces covenant – the military covenant – into the law of the land..”
