YOUNGSTERS from a Barrowford primary school became war evacuees for the day to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
The children, from class three at St Thomas’ CE Primary School, dressed in 1940s school uniform as part of their history topic on the Second World War.
They took a trip on the East Lancashire Railway and visited the Bury Transport Museum to find out what life was like for children living during the war.
Headteacher Michelle Wright said: “The pupils had a brilliant day. It really brought their studies to life and made them appreciate how different and difficult life was for children living in war-torn Britain.”
Previously in class, the children have sampled war rations and enjoyed a talk by two grandparents, who grew up in the 1940s.
