FIREFIGHTERS had to cut a man free from his car after a crash in Nelson.

Police said a 50-year-old driver was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital after the collision out side the Jobcentre at the junction of Railway Street and Netherfield Road.

The incident, which happened at 12.45pm, involved a blue Vauxhall Astra and a blue Toyota Avensis, Lancashire police said.

Two crews from Nelson fire station were called to the scene and removed the roof of one of the vehicles to assist paramedics. Police said: “A 50-year-old male with neck and back injuries and leg injuries was taken to hospital for checks.”
