A PROMINENT church leader has called on the government to do more to help people who are currently forced to rely on foodbanks during the present squeeze on holusehold budgets.
The President of the Methodist Conference, Reverend Ruth Gee, was in Lancashire at the weekend, where she made the comments.
There are 120 Methodist churches across Lancashire, making it the third biggest Christian denomination in the county.
Rev Gee said: “It is a scandal that foodbanks are on the increase in our society, that’s just scandalous, we are the seventh richest nation in the world.
“I want real steps to be made to help people across our society.”
