Dr Amir Khan has shared the secret to longevity, and it's all down to one type of food that's "really going to make you live longer".

A regular on This Morning, Good Morning Britain and ITV's Lorraine, the good doctor revealed that one breakfast staple could have you outliving the rest of us.

Speaking previously on the Private Parts podcast, Dr Khan emphasised the importance of "good quality sleep" and "good quality food".

However, he singled out one food group as being particularly beneficial for those wanting to live longer and look younger.

He said: "So, it's all the things we've talked about - good quality sleep, good quality food. If you want a food that's really going to make you live longer and look younger, what you need to eat more of is berries.

"Berries - blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries. They are full of antioxidants, and we always hear this term, antioxidants. What do they do?"

He continued: "Part of ageing is degrading of our DNA through something called free radicals, which float around in our body."

He explained that antioxidants "neutralise" these free radicals so they can't damage our DNA and age us as well as they "normally do".

Therefore, he advised people to "eat more berries if you want to live longer and look younger".

Dr Khan also reassured listeners that "you don't need to worry about the sugar content" as there's "so much fibre" in berries that it slows the sugar absorption, and the "darker the berry the better".
