Coronation Street legend Gail Platt’s exit storyline has reportedly been revealed following the character's upcoming exit after 50 years.

Platt, played by actress Helen Worth, was confirmed to be leaving the ITV soap earlier this month when Worth, 73, said that she felt like it was “the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world.”

Now, as filming gets underway for Platt’s final time on Corrie, details of her exit storyline have hinted at what ITV viewers can expect.

Bosses of the soap previously teased that it will be “emotional” but will be fitting for the Corrie legend.

Corrie’s Gail Platt exit storyline ‘revealed’

It is rumoured that Worth will offically leave the ITV show at the end of the year and the plot has been in the works for some time to mark the 50th anniversary of the actress on Corrie.

Details of the exit storyline have suggested that Platt will “sail off into the sunset” as she rekindles her relationship with Martin Platt.

If Martin does return, it will likely mean that Corrie star Sean Wilson will step back into the role following his departure in 2005 and his brief return in 2018.

Discussing the rumoured exit storyline for Worth’s character, a source told The Sun: “A number of options were considered for Gail’s departure from the cobbles but bosses knew the moment needed to truly celebrate one of Corrie’s most iconic characters as well as honour Helen’s astonishing run on the soap.

"It just didn’t sit right to kill her off or have Gail suffer more tragedy after, let’s face it, a pretty traumatic life.

“Martin was always considered the one that got away and bosses are thrilled they’ve been able to tempt Sean back to wave Gail goodbye.

"The plotline has many nuances, twists and turns but scriptwriters all want this to feel like a gorgeous end of Gail’s story, with her finally finding her happy ending."
