England star and Manchester City ace Phil Foden has temporarily left England's Euro 2024 camp in Germany due to a "pressing family matter".

The Manchester City star played in the side's 0-0 draw with Slovenia last night.

An FA spokesperson said the player had "temporarily left the England camp and returned to the UK for a pressing family matter".

Foden started all three of England's Group C matches against Serbia, Denmark and Slovenia.

Sky News confirmed the news earlier today.

The 24-year-old has struggled playing off the left-hand side, with many fans calling for him to move into the No10 position behind Harry Kane.

It is the second successive tournament an England player has been forced to fly home for a personal matter.

Chelsea star Raheem Sterling left the camp at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar after his home was burgled.

He later returned to the squad and came off the bench in the 2-1 defeat to France.

England progressed to the European Championship knockout phase as Group C winners, but fans again expressed their frustration after Gareth Southgate’s side were held to a 0-0 draw by stubborn Slovenia.

The Euro 2020 runners-up have been widely criticised following an unconvincing start to a tournament they are among the favourites to win.

England bossed possession against well-drilled Slovenia but were unable to turn their dominance into a morale-boosting victory as Tuesday’s clash in Cologne ended goalless and with more groans.

However, this result coupled with the stalemate between Denmark and Serbia saw them top the pool, meaning they will face a third-placed side in the last 16 on Sunday.
