I WAS interested in the question (LT, April 11) about the number of people who go to church nowadays and why the numbers are going down.
I think the main reason is that Sundays these days are like any other day. The shops are open and there is more variety of things to do.
Years ago, Sunday meant everything was closed and people regarded Sunday as a day of rest.
Now you even have football matches on a Sunday. That would have been forbidden. Even Bob Lord said it would never catch on!
Every store is open as are other small outlets. Years ago, everything closed on Saturday evening and that was it until Monday.
As the years have gone on, people have changed their ways and really the churches have suffered as a result. It’s a shame but it really is ‘keeping up with the times’.
