IN response to Ronnie Fisher (LT, August 29) who was angered by my comments on the late licence application for the Lord Raglan, the involvement of Councillor Konrad Tapp and myself was to make sure the local residents knew of the application and how to contact the Licensing department if they wished to object. We were not previously aware of any problems relating to the pub but a sizeable number of the residents contacted us with details of what they had suffered.

The general view was that 2am closing on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday was too late for a pub in a very residential area.

And, at the committee meeting, the brewery representative and their legal adviser agreed.

I do not consider myself a killjoy and I would be happy to see the pub succeed.

But there has to be a satisfactory balance between the needs of the brewery and the quality of life for local people.

If Ronnie is interested in meeting residents who have personally experienced the anti-social behaviour and criminal damage, we may be able to arrange it for him.

One family who live quite close have given up repairing their car and have resigned themselves to driving around in a damaged vehicle Brian Gordon, Conservative councillor, Meadowhead Ward, Blackburn.
