ALL my three children attended St Wilfrid’s School (LT, July 9) some years ago.
Yes, the criteria was regular church attendance. We were members of Redeemer Church, Shadsworth.
Some people did use the church, or sadly God, to secure a place at St Wilfrid’s and still do in churches and schools today.
So, how many genuine Christians are attending St Wilfrid’s? I’m disappointed that Wilfrid’s feel the need for less church attendance for future applicants.
St Wilfrid’s has always been a C of E comprehen-sive secondary school.
These days there will obviously be a call for this type of school in ethnic areas.
It’s not a case of St Wilfrid’s creating division – that has always been there.
There is ethnic cohesion and tolerance that will prevail in our town, which we in East Lancashire can be proud of.
I hope the zealous politically correct and mischief makers don’t make a “circus” out of this situation.
I applaud Jack Straw’s wise and sensible comments.
