RE the report headlined ‘Darwen Tower dome work due to start in October’ (LT, June 29), we were actually informed at the end of last week that the planning permission for the new dome has finally been granted, which is great news.
However, the first-year apprentices of our Training Academy now have only a couple of months left before they move on to different parts of the company where they will complete the other four years of their apprentice-ship under the care of our skilled staff.
This will give them just enough time to complete the Spitfire memorial project they have been working on since January.
The new dome will be a very good project for the 10 new apprentices that we will start recruiting from next week onwards, but it will be a slow start for obvious reasons.
