Dads who abandon their families should be “stigmatised” like drink drivers, David Cameron has said. They should be made to “feel the same force of shame” for their actions. “They should be looked at like drink drivers, people who are beyond the pale”.
Why the comparison with drink drivers? Why not with speeding drivers?
Aren’t they responsible for a lot more deaths, heartbreak and misery, than drink drivers? Absolutely! Consequently they cost the nation millions, if not billions for affected families, in health care and benefits (which the PM is ruthlessly cutting).
Then there’s enormous cost in traffic calming and prosecutions.
It should also be noted that speeding drivers cause no end of costly congestion and produce a lot more CO2 than responsible drivers?
Or the comparison could have been made with drivers who ignore the mobile phone ban! They too have been and are, responsible for many fatal and serious road traffic collisions.
The Transport Research Laboratory has positively and clearly identifed that the reaction time of a driver using a mobile phone can be slowed much the same as a drink driver twice the drink drive limit.
The devastating effect that ultimately has on families, should not be ignored!
At least drink drivers have an excuse – their thinking is irrational.
What excuse speeders? And using a mobile phone is total intent!
Which is most heartbreaking and costly – a dad abandoning his children, or a dad being killed?
If a man’s thinking doesn’t add up, then his policies certainly won’t!
