When I read that our MP Andrew Stephenson had voted for police cuts, I thought: how irresponsible of him.
But now I’m having second thoughts after noticing how many police officers stand guard outside the front of the Union Exchange pub in Colne at weekends.
Last weekend there must have been no fewer than nine police officers standing about in groups doing nothing.
Yet when we ring the police due to anti-social trouble from late at night to early morning on our street (we only live 150 yards from the rear of the pub) we are told there are no police available to deal with it.
Is it any wonder, when they are all at the front of the pub, yet never patrol at the rear where the residents live ?
We’ve tried taking this issue up with Pendle Council but without success.
If we can afford to have police guarding pub during late hours at the taxpayers’ expense, then I’d say we have too many police.
