I borrowed a van to transport some soggy cardboard to the recycling centre.
But because it was a van, I needed a permit, and a ten-minute phone call to the council was required. I asked the attendant if they were not empowered to exercise discretion and also asked what happened at weekends.
He said they weren’t in the week but if someone came at weekend in a hire van they could let them tip at their discretion.
To me, another waste of taxpayers’ money.
Give these guys the power to decide what can and can’t be tipped – they are intelligent enough.
