AN Olympic athlete’s journ-ey is not solo. There is a lot of family and other support and immense unpaid sacrifice that goes into producing an elite athlete.

Thousands of hours are spent poolside mainly at unsocial hours, thousands of miles spent travelling to training, and thousands of pounds spent on equipment, fees, specialised food etc.

However, GB has not ensured that such a family support team can share in their ‘family dream’ culminating in the athlete representing GB in London.

Ticket allocations are limited to two per athlete, and in the case of swimming, just one! The offer is really insulting.

All the effort that has gone on over the months and years seems to be taken for granted.

We want athletes and their family support teams to be recognised for what they are doing for the country.

Lord Coe was on the TV recently talking about tickets but not once did he mention the allocation to athletes’ families.

I wonder how many of his family had tickets to watch him compete in the Olympics?
