I liked the opinion expressed by Brian McGlynn (LT, May 28) that correctly analyses the state of religion generally as having a predilection for maintaining authority over the populous and exacting financial and other benefits, but with the qualification that almost all of them lack the true unction of Divine authority.

I disagree, however, that the Bible has a ‘weak script’. It has truly intense examples of real-life situations that parody the present day almost without exception.

God is the same yesterday, today and forever and is never out-of-fashion but mankind still thinks it knows best (2Timothy 3:16).

Brian, dust off your Bible and read some fantastic adventure stories. Phil Heaton, Blackburn.
