I READ with interest the article (LT, August 28) re nurses/staff and hospital visitors continuing to smoke.

One of the reasons given is that staff failed to attend training.

Maybe staff were actually doing what they are meant to do and that is care for patients.

And as assaults on nursing staff are at an all-time high, should nurses be confronting smokers at all or are they the cheap option to the hospital getting security?

Lynne Barton states they will be focusing on training of staff.

Well good luck to her because there are a lot of nurses who smoke although they do preach the dangers of it.

Nurses are people too, and don't practise what they preach. Wait until you see them on a night out. There are plumes of smoke and beer flows freely, stress-related of course.
