I WOULD like to comment on the letter by Ron O’Keeffe (‘Right course for knife girl’, LT, May 16).

What Ron is suggesting is that for committing an offence and sometimes one that is very serious, a person should be rewarded.

Whilst I am aware that it is the mantra of modern day social work to do this, what about those who obey the law?

In my experience, the long-term unemplopyed get little help with training or work placements. It clearly pays to commit crime.

The phrase ‘career criminal’ is apt.

Maybe I would do better to join their numbers!

William Morton, Bawdlands, Clitheroe.
