IN reply to Mrs M Whalley (Opinion, April 8) regarding graveside ornaments, I cannot agree with her belief that it is the council’s fault for not taking action sooner.
Mourners have built up a vast array of items over the years to such an extent that action now has to be taken.
I, like many others, find the dignity, heritage and atmosphere of many cemeteries “vandalised” by well-meaning relatives.
An eyesore is an eyesore, no matter what reasons you have for leaving trinkets on graves for public display. To the majority of visitors, the culmination of goods amounts to nothing more than a glorified fly-tip. Respect the living as well .
