I agree completely with H Hamer about how to choose a care home (LT, February 11).
I have worked in a number of homes and was appalled at the way residents were treated (or mis-treated).
The homes smelled of urine; residents were either completely ignored or laughed at; they were left to wander around or sat sleeping for hours through boredom, mental abuse and sometimes physical abuse.
I could go on but each time I have reported incidents, absolutely nothing was done. In the end, I couldn’t bear to work in these homes any longer and I left caring and found employment elsewhere.
I am not saying that all staff in care homes are the same but from what I’ve experienced, there’s only a handful who do genuinely ‘care’.
