IT is quite appalling that Coun Brian Gordon (Tory, Meadowhead ward) says Jack Straw ‘needs the Asian votes’ (LT, January 26).
If you take the votes in those wards in the least ‘Asian’ areas – Beardwood and Lammack, Roe Lee, Livesey and Pleasington, Ewood, Highercroft, Shadsworth and Whitebirk, Mill Hill, Wensley Fold and Little Harwood – you will find Labour won 48% of the vote in the 2010 election.
This is far more than the Conservatives, Lib Dems or BNP.
Coun Gordon panders to the myth that ‘whites’ don’t vote Labour in Blackburn.
In fact, Jack Straw increased his majority, proving that his and Labour’s appeal is across ALL communities.
