YOU ask how violent crime should be dealt with – this is a very painful subject as this question has been asked for years.

I agree with M R Gorton (LT, September 10). This subject must now be dealt with ASAP and any sentences brought upon the criminals should be very severe indeed.

If they are given, say, six months, they should do the full six months and never mind what the do-gooders and human rights brigade say.

Also, let the solicitors bend towards the victims instead of the yobs and villains for a change.

They are supposed to go to jail for punishment, not nourishment, so while they are inside give them hell so that when they come out, they will say to themselves, “There is no way I am going to jail again.”
