I am writing regarding the closure of Shadsworth Leisure Centre.

My aunt has worked there for many years. Earlier this year, she related to me an incident that happened there a few months ago. A young man playing football collapsed after a heart attack.

The staff on duty had to administer CPR, and had to use a defibrillator until the paramedics arrived. Later that evening the paramedics who dealt with the man returned to the centre to inform the staff of the outcome; sadly, the man died.

However, the paramedics could not praise the staff highly enough on their professionalism, high standard of training and calmness throughout the incident.

I asked my aunt about the training they go through and if they all could use defibrillators.

She informed me they all were able to use a ‘defib’ properly.

She went on to say she would trust any member of ‘the Shad team’ with, not only her own life, but with the life of myself and my three children, including when they were working on the pool. I find it extremely hard to believe that these highly trained professional people may lose their jobs, and all their expertise will be lost.
