REGARDING the article, Looking Back, some weeks ago in the Lancashire Telegraph.

There was a picture of a class in 1938, at St Silas School, which got me thinking.

I was a pupil there in 1955/56.

One of the teachers there was a Miss Lupton. She was the headteacher for the infants.

But I wonder if any of your readers remember a few of the others.

There was Mr McClennan, the headmaster, he taught the older classes upstairs.

There was also his wife, who taught the infants.

And Miss Lister, who also taught the infants whose class I was in.

There was also Miss Middleton who taught music in the hall.

And woebetide anyone who interrupted when she was doing the music scales with her class.

She was a very formidable character.

She used to wear grey woollen type suits and brown brogues as I remember.

I think she was also the music organiser for Blackburn.

There was also the caretaker Mr Tommy Briggs (who I once saw with a match looking for gas leaks, I assume in the pipework on the steps leading down to the cellar).

I had just reached seven years of age and was living in the Revidge area of Blackburn at that time, before moving to the Shadsworth new estate.

I hope this has brought back a few happy memories for your readers.
