MRS Eileen Singleton complains about the "useless rubbish" on Church Street, Blackburn, and linking this with the rise in council tax (Letters, May 9).
It has been pointed out time and time again that the various pieces of art in Blackburn and Darwen (including Church Street) are not paid for from the council tax.
Indeed I can't think of one piece of art recently erected in our borough that has been funded via council tax. (They are usually funded via specific grants, arts awards or European funding).
Yet every time these facts are pointed out some readers still write in and say that council tax is being wasted on art.
Quite simply, it isn't.
COUNCILLOR DAVE SMITH (Sunnyhurst Ward), Woodbank Avenue, Darwen.
