MOTORISTS on Mincing Lane, Blackburn, will notice a large sign, prominently displayed, showing the way to Barton Street car park.
However, anyone trying to follow the direction is in for a frustrating time.
All is well until one reaches the junction of Lord Street West and Barton Street.
At this point the entrance to the car park is 20 yards to the right, unfortunately one cannot turn as Barton Street is one-way at this point.
Instead one must left, then left again into King Street, into Astley Gate, right into Higher Church Street, then right into Darwen Street.
Next, turn right into St Peter Street, cross Mincing Lane then cross Freckleton Street and turn right into Byrom Street.
At the lights, turn right into King Street, get into the correct lane otherwise you are in trouble, then left into Montague Street.
Turn right into Feilden Street and carry straight on to Barton Street where the car park is in front of you.
It will take up to 10 minutes to cover this threequarters of a mile.
One consolation is that there will probably be room to park as there are no other signs to the car park on the route you have just taken.
Like Mr Bleazard, (Letters May 20), I am not sure what the designers are trying to achieve, but if it is to increase congestion, pollution, annoy road users, or encourage shoppers to go out of town, they have achieved 100 per cent success. Perhaps it is time for the instigator of this madness to comment.
A CROSS, Granville Road, Blackburn.
