I CAN fully understand M Sowerbutts' concern regarding the Tory plans to close Waves (LET, March 13), but I don't think he need worry too much.
Once again someone has put their mouth into motion before putting their brain in gear.
Coming out with a statement such as the Tories have made will only ensure they remain on the sidelines.
If, however, they had said "We are going to close Waves, but build the most up-to-date aquatic centre in Lancashire, at Witton Park, with a purpose-built Olympic-sized 50-metre pool, diving pool and fun centre, plus the best teaching facilities for miles around a centre that can be used to stage national and international swimming events and attract athletes from all over the country"...then I think people might have been in favour.
Witton Park is already well known for its athletics and there is plenty of room to build an aquatics centre there.
Blackburn could be one of the top sporting towns in the country if the council thought about it, but it would mean they would have to re-direct some of their attention away from Church Street.
Boy, how I hate what they have done to Blackburn's town centre.
