RE the proposed Whalley Range Bazaar project "Curry idea gets spiced up" (LET, Feb 10).
Are the resources available from government being distributed around Blackburn with Darwen in a fair and equitable way? I don't think so.
The Whalley Range area is full of refurbished housing, new housing, new shop fronts and is looking better than it has in years.
This has all been done with millions of pounds from various sources, including the European Redevelopment Fund. The same cannot be said for other parts of the borough.
For example, in the Griffin area, instead of new and refurbished houses, there is some of the worst housing in the borough.
Last year Blackburn with Darwen Council asked residents to vote on proposals to improve the area with monies from the Elevate scheme and residents voted for refurbishment and new housing in almost equal amounts.
Imagine our surprise when the final proposal from the council was to improve only half the area, with the other half being left to rot with no previous mention of this in any of the documents put out by the council. Talk about moving the goalposts!
How can the council justify spending millions of pounds more in the Whalley Range area which now has some of the best housing stock in the borough, and areas like Griffin, which have never had a penny, are crying out for decent housing and amenities?
I think the council should get its priorities in order and start looking after all its citizens in a fair and equitable manner.
