I WRITE with reference to the report (LET, January 27) which referred to the proposed amalgamation of Lancashire Ambulance Service into a larger North West ambulance service (which would include Manchester to Liverpool as well as the surrounding counties) and the comments regarding this amalgamation (takeover) made by a top health boss'.
Allan Murray stated that he would be amazed' if cash for the Lancashire Ambulance Service was used elsewhere in the North West by the proposed larger service.
He further stated that Lancashire Ambulance Service would not suffer as the result of the amalgamation.
Our ambulance service is rated as the second best in the country at present. So I ask, if it is that good why do the powers that be want to change it? (It ain't broke so don't mend it).
The only answer can be that any amalgamation would permit the authorities to take the best and dilute it in an attempt to better the poorer services. This to the benefit of others but certainly not of Lancashire.
Contrary to Mr Murray's stated beliefs I would be amazed' if we do not end up with a poorer service than our current one.
