I AGREE with ex -Burnley Mayor Lilian Clarke's comments on the state of Burnley and I admire her for speaking out. It's not the council's fault. It's residents who have no pride in where they live.
It does not matter where you live, all areas are the same. The council sends leaflets on where to dispose of your rubbish. Community groups also send newsletters out but it's too hard for some residents to pick up the phone and ring to get it collected. Just dump it in the nearest back yard or back street for other residents to move.
Dog fouling is another hazard and our streets are a state with bottles, cans, papers blowing all over.
I cleaned up a vast amount of rubbish from Christmas into the New Year, in our area. The few bins are always overflowing.
Residents need to take pride in the area they live in by sweeping outside their properties. It makes a difference.
C CHAPMAN (Mrs), Cleaver Street, Burnley.
