ONE of the most commonly illustrated buildings of Blackburn found in prints, cards and books is the old Market Hall and clock.

This was obviously very much part of Blackburn and now surely missed by citizens old enough to remember.

When I came with my family to live in Blackburn in 1970, it had been demolished. Having heard about it and seen illustrations we were naturally most disappointed to find it no longer there.

I understand that although the clock housing was destroyed, the works were retained and are now in a museum somewhere.

If Blackburn is to attract visitors, it is most important that there are places to see other than just shops and surely therefore, there should be a campaign to reinstate an exact replica of the old Victorian clock tower using the original mechanism.

This would enhance much of the improvements in the town already completed.
