RE the front page on January 14 saying: Our teachers are bored.
I think many students would agree with me when I say that many of our teachers are boring. I work in schools and I have listened to lessons where the teachers drone on and on and when their attention wanders, the children are punished, all because the lesson does not captivate them.
I see many low achievers becoming teachers because they do not get the grades necessary for other fields of study. They have personal problems and then they go in front of students, many of whom already have better self esteem than they do, expecting the youngsters to give them their full attention.
They strut and posture and they make themselves look like the idiots they are.
Education as it stands is destined for failure, students do not want to be enclosed in stifling atmospheres.
Most teachers cannot cope with challenging classes, working mainly with their eye on the clock and when problems erupt, as they invariably do, the administration is limited as to their response.
I believe the government needs to rethink the programmes we offer our young people.
Schools as they stand are simply breeding grounds for social unrest and violent behaviour.
