FOLLOWING the murders of the two schoolgirls in Soham the Richards Inquiry made 21 recommendations to ensure that never again would anyone who was on the Sex Offenders List be permitted to work in our schools.
However this government, which spent hundreds of hours on a debate to get a bill passed banning hunting with dogs (which incidentally is almost impossible to enforce), could not find time to legislate to prevent sex offenders teaching in our schools.
Education Secretary Ruth Kelly has confessed that she does not know how many teachers who are on the sex offenders list are teaching in our schools.
Ministers should be ashamed that they put the welfare of animals before the safety of our children.
Councillor D PEARSON, St Michaels Court, Blackburn.
