THE reader's recent problems with potholes in Parsonage Road, Blackburn, prompted me to take greater note when travelling to Bury on New Year's Day and I am delighted to be able to report that I have discovered two more roads whose potholed areas perfectly fit the requirements of the Blackburn with Darwen Council official who suggested that he should drive on the other side of the road to miss them.
The first is a brace of holes approaching the dangerous bends just before Brookside Nurseries on the Blackburn to Haslingden Road (A677).
The second is a trench across half the carriageway just after leaving Helmshore on the road to Greenmount.
In both cases the recommended use of the "other side" of the road would be most unadvisable.
What possessed a senior public servant to come out with such rubbish only he knows but maybe his next jewel might concern closing Parsonage Road on financial grounds, as the deliberate under-investment in our roads by this government has reached crisis proportions, with many minor roads having to be closed, notably in North Yorkshire, for lack of funds to repair them.
