I REFER to the article (LET, December 27) regarding buses on the Openshaw Drive route. While I sympathise with Blackburn Transport's problem, there are three of my fairly immediate neighbours for whom this service is a lifeline.
When the traffic calming measures were first mooted, my wife and I were in agreement because the speed limit was to be reduced to 20mph.
Despite Councillor Andy Kay's comments, I can assure readers that, on the stretch between St James Road and Pleck Farm Avenue at least, the humps do little or nothing to slow down a fair percentage of drivers. Surely it is safer to drive at up to 40mph on a flat surface than over a series of humps.
I have contacted Capita a number of times and also the police but none appears to be interested in enforcing the speed limit.
What is the point of making a rule if no-one is prepared to make sure it is observed?
The only person to take any note of my observations is the local CPSO.
R B FLETCHER, Openshaw Drive, Blackburn.
