I NOTE from last Saturday's LET that people were disappointed when Dave Whelan's free pie gesture was downgraded to a half price pie.

I too felt disappointed but not about the changed gesture, I was more concerned that the LET chose to fill its page three with the negatives but not balance the article with comment on positives.

I, and any other Rovers fan who wanted to enter, was welcomed into the marquee visitors' lounge at the JJB stadium by some of the most pleasant stewards I've ever come across in football stadia all over the country.

It was open to all Rovers fans not a select few, not for the benefit of the prawn sandwich brigade but the genuine grass roots fans.

In clean, pleasant and amiable surroundings, hot drinks, soft drinks, beer and half price pie and peas were on offer as well as seating, tables and giant size TV screens for live football on Sky.

Mr Whelan's club did us proud, all of the fans inside the lounge commented on the facility and the attitude of the staff and I thank Mr Whelan for his generosity to Blackburn fans, the friendliness of his staff and his investment in football in Lancashire.

I would also like to comment on the attitude of the home fans, many of whom were streaming through the gates with half an hour to go, a steward referred to it as the Wigan Walk'.

Shame on you all, your club, your team, your manager and Mr Whelan deserve better, your season has been nothing short of miraculous and to walk out was such a demonstration of disrespect that is nothing short of appalling.

GEORGE HATTON, Cherryclough Way, Blackburn.
