OH no, Councillor Cottam is coming out with his insensitive remarks again (LT, January 25), telling residents to get out and clear their pavements of snow and ice.

This is all very well, but what are you supposed to do if you are elderly or disabled? His comments were uncalled for.

One resident told me he watched the gritting lorry go pass his house and it appeared to be spreading grit. But when he went outside and tool a look, no grit was to be seen. I hope if the next winter is as bad as the one we have just had, the council will do better as their service this year was abysmal.

And don’t forget, Coun Cottam, the local elections are nearly upon us.
