Your web correspondent, Richard Nelson, is fundamentally wrong in asserting that either Pendle Borough or Lancashire County Council have anything to do with snow and ice clearance at the Boundary Mill Store in Colne.
Boundary Mill pays considerable sums to a private contractor to salt and grit when snow and ice are predicted. We have also invested in our own plant to enable our in-house maintenance team to keep our car park gritted for our customers and for staff to get to work.
At times like the last few weeks, additional equipment is hired to keep on top of the job.
No arrangement of any sort has been made or sought with the local authorities; it is our car park, and the duty to keep it clear is down to us. It is a duty we willing accept to make sure that our staff and customers can access the store safely.
Perhaps the idea came from the fact that our internal roads are part of a bus route, but we salt and grit those too.
