The new 21 bus route, The Whalley Ranger, is effectively the old Openshaw Drive route except that it does not go round Openshaw Drive.
It is a good size of bus with easy access for elderly, disabled and anyone pushing a pram.
What puzzles me is that drivers were used who did not know the route. They had to read the hastily produced leaflet.
This is not the only confusing thing about the route as the drivers are not sure where the stops are.
In an effort to discover where it stops, I emailed Lancashire United and was told “I cannot tell you exactly where the stops are sited but I have been advised by Blackburn with Darwen Council that there are four stops on the outbound journey to St James’s Road and four on the inbound.”
If the drivers aren’t sure and the company don’t know, how are people going to be encouraged to use the new service?
The bus will be useful to many in the area and every 10 minutes is better than either of the other two services that operate in the same area. Personally, I find it very useful myself, so well done Lancashire United.
