The letter from the Blackburn with Darwen Council employee (LT, June 30) quite rightly highlights the unnec-essary and unpopular cuts made to the cleansing budget by the Con/Lib/Dem/For Darwen coalition running the council.
Yet this is not the only cut being made. In an article headed “New brown bins for recycling” (June 30) Coun Alan Cottam boasts about the provision of an extra 500 brown bins and says, “You said you wanted to recycle as much as you can and we are making it as easy as possible for you to do it”.
However, according to council officers, no more brown bins will be provided yet there are still thousands of households with gardens without brown bins. So not only have coalition counc-illors cut the cleansing budget, they have prevented extra recycling taking place in our borough. It’s no use councillors such as Paul Browne complain-ing about the service when he and his coalition friends voted to make the service worse!
DAVE SMITH, Town Councillor, Sunnyhurst Ward.
